Chapter Summary[]
Storm's' Point of View[]
Lick lay in her den, along with her litter-brothers Grunt and Wiggle. She wondered how could they sleep on such a night, and woke them up with shoves. Grunt groaned in protest, but stumbled too his paws. He nipped at Wiggle to wake him. Lick thought they were making too much noise, but the adults didn't do so much as stir. She wished they could say a proper goodbye, but knew they would stop them from leaving. Grunt tells Lick not to change her mind, as they are Fierce Dogs. Lick agrees, but is still uncertain. Grunt says they're only nice now because they're pups, but won't be the same when they're older. She nuzzled her brother, then tells them to be quiet. Wiggle trembled with fear. Grunt and Lick encourage their little brother. Slowly, they crept forward, the grass tickling her nose and she wanted to sneeze, but knew she couldn't. They watched as Moon patrolled, and were careful to avoid her. Eventually Moon vanished, and Lick sighed with relief. They scurried further, their steps sounding far too loud to Lick. A night bird screeched above the Fierce pups, and Wiggle almost stumbled in terror, sticking to Lick for support. There was a rattle in a bush, and Lick let out a yelp of shock. Daisy, who was on night patrol, came out of a bush. She asks the pups what they were doing, and exclaims they could've been hurt. Lick says they were escaping. Daisy asks why, and Grunt says that no one wants them in the pack. Daisy says that is not true, leading them to camp. Lick says that it's a long way back, but Daisy says it's not half as far as she thinks.
